An Ode to 4E3

31 Aug

Hindsight is 20/20.

So it is with great fondness that I recollect on my years in secondary school in Singapore, those relatively carefree years.

My Upper Secondary class was fifty-fifty boys and girls.  In Secondary 4, in order to keep the noise level down, our form teacher had each boy sit next to a girl, at paired desks around the classroom.  I sat at the furthest corner of the front.  Next to me was Nelson, who turned out to be a really nice guy when he was separated from his buddies.

The boys would be happy for the girls’ return from Food & Nutrition because we’d all have food.  Some were good, some were not, and those that were good were quickly gobbled up by hungry boys.

DFF #66 – Rebecca Minkoff Admirer bag

31 Aug

I can has bad-ass black leather casual sling bag?

Clean lines, no dangly details (like fringe… ugh), very neat and practical.  The tumbled leather look really gets me though, and I must have it… someday. :P

It’s $475 at Shopbop.

Sleep-stripping

31 Aug

So a few nights ago, I woke up in the middle of the night freezing.  I’d thrown off my blankets and then it slowly dawned on me…

… I felt my arms and my chest…

I WAS TOPLESS.

I have absolutely no recollection of having taken off my pajama top because I was hot.

I drew the covers up around my shoulders and fell back asleep.

In the morning, I picked up my pajama top from off the floor.

All the buttons were still fastened, the top entirely inside-out. It wasn’t like a sleeve was still right-side-out, no no. I didn’t undo a single button.  I just pulled it off, which isn’t even how I take my tops off when I’m awake.

So sometime in the middle of the night, I felt hot, that I sat up, pulled my top off in an unnatural way, tossed it on the floor, threw off the covers, all without waking up.

Well, at least I’m not sleep-walking.

Men versus Women’s Shopping Logic

30 Aug

So it occurred to me today (and it has many many times before) that my husband just doesn’t understand how I shop.

I got an e-mail from Shopbop saying that they were offering FREE OVERNIGHT SHIPPING.

You gotta be nuts if you don’t think that’s awesome!

So naturally, I think, Holy crap I need to take advantage of this offer!! I order a dress and a pair of Marc Jacobs earrings and six hours later I get a shipping notification.

I explained this to the husband.  He was quiet for a moment, shook his head, laughed, and said something along the lines of, “Aristotle forgot to write about this particular subject when he wrote about logic!”  (Philosopher humor.)  “I’m missing the connection between free shipping and you clicking ‘Buy’.”

I decided to write about this, and attempt to make sense of it.

WIW – Black leather

30 Aug

We went out to dinner at Barbacco to celebrate my FINALLY PAYING OFF MY STUDENT LOAN.

Ceeeeeelebrate good times COME ON!!

:) :) :)

I love being debt-free!

(Except there are still payments for the new car…  D’oh.)

As you can see, it fits me like a glove because I have a very small chest.  I can’t imagine having gigantic bazongas and wanting to wear this!  I mean, even unzipping the front, it still would kinda squish your boobs all weird.  (Hahahaha yeah, read that last part again.)

Dress: alice+olivia
Shoes: Lauren by Ralph Lauren
Cardigan: J.Crew
Bracelet: Hermès
Watch: Coach
Necklace: Poh Heng? (but I removed the pendant)
Purse: Chanel

I’ve become quite the alice+olivia collector now.  Next on my radar is the cute black peplum short-sleeved dress!

DFF #65 – Gorjana Clyde drop earrings

30 Aug

I know I have way too many drop earrings, but I can’t help myself:

Itty-bitty rose-colored hearts and separate gold chains?  Cute!

They’re $35 at Shopbop.

WIW – Quasi-prep

27 Aug

I don’t know what got into me this morning.

I haven’t worn a shirt/sweater combo since… um… I don’t know, actually.  Maybe very early on in my last job?

Shirt: J.Crew
Cotton cashmere sweater: Victoria’s Secret
Leggings: Victoria’s Secret
Flats: Target
Bracelet: Madewell

DFF #64 – Milly Phoebe Dress

27 Aug

Milly seems to be geared toward the younger girly crowd, but this nude little number totally suckered me in:

It’s too bad the waist detail isn’t removable.  What if I don’t want the chains there?

Though I suppose I could just cover it up with a big belt or something.

It’s $345 at Shopbop.

SF Street Food Festival 2010

26 Aug

It wasn’t the idea weather for an outdoor street food festival, but we layered up and braved the chill to eat delicious food…

… but we had to stand in line 30 people long just to get the food and then we weren’t even guaranteed their availability!!

And what’s worse, the food wasn’t even that great!

The best were the pupusa at the very first stall we went to, the mango agua fresca, and the strawberry balsamic ice cream sandwich (with sugar cookies!) from Bi-Rite Creamery.  Everything else was just passable.

If we had the digestive system of a cow (that is, four stomachs), we might have been able to use up all of our food and drink tickets, and maybe if we had the patience to maybe lie around or walk around or do something else while the food went down, we might’ve been inclined to go for a second round.

Alas, it just wasn’t worth standing in lines all day long.

DFF #63 – Hits from the Tory Burch sale

26 Aug

My style is sorta turning a little Americana with the J.Crew aesthetic with a sprinkle of hippie-chic and model-off-duty.

Does that make sense?

Not really. ;)

Stripes with polka dots?  Stripes with stripes OF polka dots?  Why not!
